In the heart of Australia, a group of compassionate Women from the small city of Rumbek in South Sudan came together with a shared vision: to bring hope and tangible assistance to their fellow women and children in need in Rumbek and across South Sudan. Diar Akon Buoi Helping Hands Australia Incorporated was born from this vision and founded on the principles of kindness, community, and unwavering support for those facing adversity.
The seeds of Diar Akon Buoi Helping Hands Australia were planted in January 2020, when our founder, Ajok Longar, travelled to South Sudan and witnessed firsthand the struggles many individuals and families, particularly women and children, face in our community. Determined to make a difference, Ajok Longar rallied a group of like-minded friends and colleagues, all passionate about creating positive change. Our organisation was officially established with a deep understanding of the challenges and an unyielding commitment to help.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide essential health services and resources to those most need them. Every Woman and Child deserves the opportunity to live healthily, and we are dedicated to bridging the gap between hardship and hope. Our various programs and initiatives aim to uplift lives, promote self-sufficiency, and foster a sense of healthy community.
What We DoAt Diar Akon Buoi Helping Hands Australia, our work spans a wide range of areas, all aimed at addressing the immediate and long-term needs of Women and children back in South Sudan. Our critical programs include: |
Antenatal and postnatal care programs: | We will offer regular antenatal follow-up, blood tests, blood pressure and weight monitoring, and preparation for delivery. We will also provide breastfeeding classes and general health hygiene advice for new mothers and their infants. |
Mental health support program: | We have designed a program to provide mental health education and care for women and new mothers, including postnatal blues and depression. We will make appropriate referrals as needed. |
Health promotion and education programs: | Our program will cover self-care activities and general hygiene care for women and their children. |
Support groups programs for new mothers: | We will organise breastfeeding support and provide training for midwives. |
Vaccination programs for pregnant women and newborns: | We will provide pregnant women with vaccinations as indicated, such as the Whooping cough vaccination. We will also offer screenings for sexually transmitted diseases and vaccinations for Hepatitis B and Rubella. Additionally, we will organise childhood vaccination programs. |
By implementing this holistic project plan, we aspire to create a lasting positive impact on women, girls, and children in Rumbek, Lakes State and across South Sudan. Our goals include:
Reduced mortality rates among infants, children, and mothers. | Enhanced access to essential healthcare services. | Improved maternal and child health. | Greater awareness and education regarding women's health and hygiene. |
Strengthened mental health support for women. | Empowered and well-connected new mothers through support groups. | Increased immunisation rates, leading to better community health. | Reduced prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases. |
None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community. Whether through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word about our mission, every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can continue to extend a helping hand to those who need it most.
We invite you to be a part of our journey. Join us as we work towards a brighter, more compassionate future for all.
